Additional information when measuring for a weight belt

Weightlifting/Power Lifting Belts are worn well above where you wear your shorts or pants, this means they are worn above the hip bones. Most people are inclined to use their pant size for a weightlifting belt. This often ends up with the belt not fitting correctly. Ordering the correct size is very important. If you have any questions at all contact us at 800-445-5262 and we will help you determine the correct size. We are unable to accept returned belts due to incorrect size or options.

  1. Hello,

I’ve heard great things about your belts and am very interested in getting one! I’m just a bit unsure about the measurement. I ordered another powerlifting belt from a different distributor and the sizing was extremely off. I measured myself the way you discussed in the video, and I measured to be 35″. Would it be best to get a medium or a large?

    1. Medium should be good. At 35″ you will most likely wear your belt at about 34″ when cinched tight. You can always type that measurement into the “order comments” and I will do my best to get that measurement to the middle hole!

      1. Hey Matt I need some prices on a blue belt with my name in it with my school symbol on it bout how much would that cost if I was to get one

        1. Hey bud, It will be anywhere from 140 – 200 depending on thickness and style. If you want to give me all of your specs, I will get you an accurate quote!

          1. Like a royal blue belt with my name small above the buckle and then a pirate symbol on the back outside of the belt

          2. Just add about $60 to the base price of the belt. Let me know if you need help while on the site and I will do my best!

      2. Hello, been looking for some options on custom made belts. Been lifting (bodybuilding) for about 30 yrs, I have a powerlifting belt, it is ok, just cause I like the padding, couldn’t find a bodybuilding one. Anyways, looking for something in black, with red lettering, “Jesse the Body” with red stitching. Could you suggest something, I would also like a small Canadian flag on the end of the strap.

        1. I don’t do padded belts but if you aren’t concerned with that, our 4″ training belt is what you are after given the info provided. They are customizable with lettering, images, etc…

      3. Hello Matt, i measured 29″ should i get a small or x-small?

        1. Your weight goals will dictate this honestly. If you plan on getting bigger, I would suggest a small. If planning on losing inches, go XS. If planning on staying around the same (and not getting a stock belt), make a not in the order notes to have 29″ the center hole.

    2. My question is how to measure it belt which will fit whether u do weightlifting deadlifts or use in other body parts. I love to buy ur amazing belts for me especially the lever one kind of clutch. And I want my Indian flag. If you guys OK with that 😊🙏

      1. Measure tightly around your naval (or wherever you will be wearing the belt) for all belts outside of work/gun belts

    3. Hey there,

I’ve measured and I’m a 35″ or 34″ (if I really pull tight). Which size would you recommend?

      Regards,

      Matt

      1. Medium if you maintain your weight or plan to gain a bit.

If losing weight, may just want to put your measurements in the notes section and let us make that measurement the center.

        1. My son is 16yrs old 6′ 4″ 380# and on the weight lifting team.he wear a size 60 pants
Is possible to make a belt to fit him? Would like gift him.

          1. David,

I will need his tight measurement around his navel area where he will wear the belt. That is usually a bit bigger than his pant size. Let me know at [email protected]

    4. Hi I’m 37inches with my stomach what size deadlift belt should I get?

      1. Medium fits 31″-40″. If you are tight around the naval at 37″, medium should be the right belt for you

  2. Matt,
Do you make your “13mm Thick 10cm Lever Power Lifting Belt ” in XXXL? I measure out about 50″ and would like to be closer to the middle.

    Thanks!
    -Scotty

    1. I can make them up to approximately 70″ long. Just purchase the XXL belt on the site and type the measurement you need in the “order notes” section at checkout!

  3. Hello. I’m looking at purchasing a belt. I measure 40″ at navel but am looking to slim up n waist. I would like a black lever belt with the name SWEET W in red outlined letters on the back. Maybe red on inside of belt also. Didn’t know what cost might be. Thanks

    1. Hey Charles, just go to the product page for the belt that you want and add these options. The price at the bottom of the page will automatically update with your selections.

  4. So if I am 25.5 inches around the waist right now, should I go with a X-Small or Small? The X-Small goes from 22-31 but the Small is 27-36? Also how do you determine the thickness of the belt? This will be my first belt and I am just trying to get the right information before I purcahase one.

    1. Hi Jamie,
At 25.5″ around your naval, the XS would be the best size for you. There is an article on the site that is titled “how to choose the right belt for you” and it should help you to choose the right belt. I would recommend the 10mm double suede belt as it is a great 1st belt. You can email me direct at [email protected] for more help!
      Thanks,
      Matt

    2. I am a 33 when measuring and I notice that fits the small and medium range. I plan on gaining a bit of weight but not much- should I go for the medium? Thank you so much

      1. Order the small and in the “belt notes” section, request the middle hole be set at 33″, this way you’ll have room on either side to bulk or cut.

  5. How long will this take to complete and be mailed?

    1. Most custom belts right now are taking between 3-4 weeks due to the holiday season.

      1. Hi Matt my name is Carlos, I want to know if I measure a size 43 & I’m planning to slim down a bit. What size belt do you recommend? Thanks!

        1. If you only plan on losing inches then I recommend the large size 35″-44″

  6. Hey Matt,

I see you can do a 6.5 mm and 13 mm, but can you do a 10 mm treated belt? Also, I measured out to a 43, but am currently losing weight. Is there any way to get a big large/ small x-large. I’d be willing to pay for the inconvenience.

    Thanks!

    1. Hey Julian,
Yes I can do a 10mm treated belt! You will need to purchase the 13mm version and request the desired thickness in the order comments section at checkout. You can also let me know in the order comments that you need the middle hole at 43″ and we will do our best to accommodate those requests.
      Thanks,
      Matt

  7. Hi Matt, My son measures 35″ but is a growing teenager. The large looks best to me, but will it fit him well right now?

    1. I would recommend the Medium 31-40. He will most likely wear the belt an inch less than 35″ when he cinches it tight so he should have around 6″to grow in his midsection.

  8. If I ordered a X-Large would it be possible to add a hole for 38″?

    1. Yes just request it in the order comments section at checkout!

  9. I fall between a 47 and a 48. What size powerlifting belt would you suggest getting. Depending on the season my stomach size goes up and down.

  10. Hey I measure 33.5 – 34. What size belt should be good for me? Thanks

    1. I would recommend a Small but go ahead and put this measurement in the order comments section at checkout so we can make it the middle holes.

  11. Um do u have any phone num that I can text you off of that way I can clarify what I want and stuff

  12. I measure at 45. What size powerlifting belt would you recommend.

  13. I am trying to buy a gift. He wears a size 32 waist, he is at 190lbs but is looking to cut down. Should I get a medium size 31-40 or a small 27-36. Please help!

    1. I think a Small is the best choice here.

  14. I’m stuck between a small and a medium size belt. I’m 6′, 34×34 for jeans and about 205 lbs but I am going to cut down to 190-195. Help!! Thanks

    1. Hey buddy you sound like a medium to me but can you measure tight around your naval and let me know that measurement?

  15. Hey, if my waist is around 28-29, then the X-Small should be perfect right?

    1. Yes it should be unless you plan to gain weight soon. That 28-29 should be tight around where you are going to wear the belt.

  16. I have a 39″ waist but I’m cutting so my waist size is going to drop several inches still. Do you think the medium is probably the right choice? I’m just concerned because it’s near the upper cut-off for size medium. Never used a belt before. Thanks!

    1. If you order a medium, request the belt to be two inches longer than a medium in the order comments section at checkout and it should fit perfect. It will fit 33″-42″ that way.

  17. I’m buying my husband a new belt. His waist is 38″. Should I order the Medium or Large?

    1. Id say medium unless he is planning on gaining mass

  18. Hi I need my first belt, and I want something that will “grow with me” since my ultimate goal is hypertrophy. I measure out to 38.75 using your measurement guideline so I am thinking the Large size. I am also wondering the difference between treated and untreated belts. I am currently leaning towards the 13mm Thick 10cm Lever Power Lifting Belt (Treated). Thanks for your time!

    1. Hey Thomas,
I would recommend making a note of your size in the order comments section at checkout and letting me make it special for you. You are right in-between a medium and large IMO. Treated belts are soaked in a fish and mineral solution to help the belt become more pliable and not take so long to break in. (Similar to vaseline on a new ball glove). The treated version makes a better end product from my experience so I always recommend it vs an untreated belt.

      1. Sweet thanks for the quick reply and information! Ordering now.

  19. Hello,

My measurement at my navel is 38.5, I have a Training belt I’ve borrowed that is about 42″ (leather length only-excluding buckle) and cranked pretty tight, I’m in the sixth hole.

    Should I order a Std. Med. or should I order a Med. cut to 33″ – 42″?
    Thanks!

    1. Hey,
Ill special make that size, just make sure to add your measurement to the order notes section at checkout!

  20. how do i go about customizing my belt, do i need to call or email?

    1. Hey!
You can do it online, via email, or by phone. Whatever is easiest for you. Our # is 1.800.445.5262 My email is Matt@generalleathercraft and you already know the web address lol

  21. I measure in at about 30″ for my waist, but I’m looking to put on some weight. Would you recommend me buy the X-Small or the Small size?

    1. if 30″ is around your naval and your are planning on getting larger, go with the Small

  22. Hello,

I’m looking into getting the lever belt. For the sizing, I measured my waist, and it’s 29 inches. Should I go for XS or a Small one? Thanks for the help!

    1. Buy the small and write your measurement in the order notes section at checkout.

  23. Matt,

I want to get a belt as close to the exact size of my current belt as possible.

I want 4″ wide, 6.5 mm thick untreated single prong belt.

The total length of my current belt is 45 inches (all measures from buckle fold )

I currently use a hole 37 inches from the buckle fold but hope to get back to using a smaller one.

The 1st hole is 31.5 inches from buckle fold and the last is 42.5 inches.

please advise as to best size to order. I don’t want too much extra length since it may get in the way of a heavy clean (I am a competitive lifter). Too short will also cause a problem. as it won’t be retained by the strap and may stick out.

Does anyone in the NY / NJ area carry your belts in stock so I could try it on?

    Thanks in advance,

    Tom

    1. I would have to say either a Medium or Large. The medium will be about 41″ long and fit 29″-40″. The Large will be 45″ Long and fit 33″-44″. If I had to make a call based on the info you gave me I would say the large is it is closest to what you have.

I don’t have anyone that is stocking our belts (most of my wholesale customers are internet retailers) so that is most likely not doable.

      1. would there be any problem adding an extra hole at 31 inches from the buckle (leather fold)? Or, can I simply use a power drill and add the hole myself, assuming there is nothing special I have to do?

  24. Hi! If I’m a 29 which belt would you recommend?

    1. I would want to make you a custom size range. I would make an XS 2.5″ longer than normal so you would have a range of 24.5″-33.5″. If that is something you are interested in, just type a message in the “order notes” section at checkout explaining your desired measurements.

  25. Hello I am really interest in buying a belt I have my waist size however I’m not sure how thick of a belt I should get I have a smaller torso I’m initially 5’1 and my waist is about 28.5. I am not sure if I need a belt with 6.6mm thickness or 13 mm thickness. I just don’t want to get one to thick but I also want the support so I’m kinda stuck help! Lol

    1. Hey Sarah,

The most pliable belt we make is the treated 6.5mm belts and they are really awesome IMO as they offer a good amount of support while being very comfortable. The 10mm belts are also comfy but are a bit bulkier than you probably need.

  26. Hey Matt im getting ready to order a custom belt from you how do I make sure the letters are in red I’ve played around with the editing but I cant see it changing.

    1. There should be a section titled “color of message”. If you can not find that part, just utilize the “order notes” section at checkout and type your request there.

  27. My waist size is 32 what size belt do I order

    1. If the measurement is around your naval and pulled tight, I suggest a small (27″-36″) for a 32″ measurement.

  28. Got that Stay the course gear! AWW shit

  29. Hi Matt- I measured per the video, and I came up with 31.5″ with the tape firm but not cinched down. If I cinch down it’s about 28″. I’m interested in the 10mm training belt and will use it for Olympic weightlifting. Which size should I go for, Small or X-Small? I’m a man, 5’6″, 142lbs, if that helps.

    1. You will want to measure using about the same tightness as you would wearing your belt. Put that measurement in the “order notes” section at checkout and we will try to make that the middle hole.

  30. Hi,
I am very interested in getting a custom belt from you. I am a bodybuilder, 5’9; 170lbs; waist 30-32. What belt and size would you recommend?
    Thanks!

    1. I would first recommend reading the “how to choose the right belt” article I wrote a while back. You can find it on the bottom right hand side of the home page. Just going off the info you provided here, I would say a 10mm training belt in a size Small would be best.

  31. Hey Matt,

I am looking for a 3″ belt with 10mm thickness. Don’t see that in the belts menu. Is that something that can be done?

    Thanks

    1. Hey!
Yes we can do it. You will just have to purchase the 10cm (4″) belt on the site and request the width to be 3″ in the “order notes” section at checkout.

  32. Hi I am wanting to buy a custom suede power belt for ages but nervous about sizing – I have a 28 inch waist according to the instructions – should I stick with an XS or S? Thanks so much!

    1. The best way to do it if you are worried about size is order the next size up and request the middle hole to be at your measurement. In this case, order the Small, and type “I have a 28″ measurement” in the order notes section at checkout.

  33. Hi Matt,

I was just wondering whether you were able to ship internationally? I’m looking for buy 6″ thick leather belt for my trainer as a gift for Christmas, but it’s ALWAYS so difficult getting things down under. Any tips/info would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers,

    Natasha

    1. yes we do! You can either order it online or email me and I will help you there!

  34. Hi! I am planning to get a double suede lifting belt for christmas. This will be my first lifting belt. My waist measurement is around 30-31″. What size should I get? I am 5’1 and weigh around 115-117lbs. If I put the order this week, what’s the estimated time for me to get my belt?

    1. Order a Small and put your measurements in the “order notes” section at checkout. We are at about 3 weeks for non-embroidered and around 5 weeks for Embroidered stuff.

  35. Hi. I measure 32 at my navel. What’s the best size for me: small or medium?. Thank you

    1. Small as it is right in the middle of the size range.

  36. Hello! Just want to verify – my pant size is typically 34-35 but using a tape measure at my navel (stomach relaxed), is around 37. I am losing weight so will likely drop down an inch or so at most. Would large work or would that put me too close to the smallest setting if I drop an inch?

    1. If you are going to be loosing weight I would go with the medium. The large would leave you to much over hang.

      Kimberly

  37. Im roughly 30-31 inches around the naval, would a small work with room to grow and shrink?

    1. Yes I think so! Just make sure that measurement was taken in accordance with the sizing video.

  38. Hi, I’m ready to order one of your belts. I need it for squatting and deadlifting. I’m 5’2″. My navel measures 31 right now. I’m interested in the lever belt but not sure if getting the single prong would be a better choice. What are the benefits of the lever? And I’m sssuming I would be a small? Thank you.

    1. Hey Susan,
Sorry for the late reply here. I would recommend reading the “how to choose the right weight belt” article on the home page. It is full of helpful info that I won’t touch here. Lever belts are easy on and off and easy to get super tight, BUUUUTTTT you if you wear your belt different tightnesses or your weight fluctuates, you have to adjust using a screw driver. There are no cons to the single prongs other than it just isn’t AS easy to get on and off vs the lever.

  39. I’m 5’2 and 132 pounds with a 27/28 inch waist. I was looking to get a 10mm suede single prong belt. Would you recommend a small or x-small? 28 is about the biggest my waist ever gets.

    1. Just type in 28″ to the middle hole in the “order notes” section at checkout and we will get that measurement in the center of the size range. That way if you get bigger or smaller, it will still fit.

      1. I’m Roughly 28 1/2, I assumed I should stick with an XS… I just read this comment and so I just ordered mine, Will I be able to adjust it to around 28?? I vary from 27/28 as well

        1. Hi Marguerite, I just emailed you with answers. Kimberly

  40. Hello,

I’ve heard great things about your belts and am very interested in getting one! I’m just a bit unsure about the measurement. I ordered another powerlifting belt from a different distributor and the sizing was extremely off. I measured myself the way you discussed in the video, and I measured to be 35″. Would it be best to get a x-smal or a small?

    1. 35″ tight around the naval is a perfect Medium (31″-40″)

  41. If my sinched measurement is 44 inches should with a Large so or XL? I’m in the process of dropping weight and I want to make sure I get one that I’ll be able to use for awhile.

    1. A large (35-44) will be right at the biggest giving you lots of room to lose weight. If you want where you will be wearing the belt in the middle of the measurements, the XL is a better bet.

  42. I measured around 40 inches. Would a large be suffice? I am 6 feet around 225lbs.

    Thanks!

    1. Yep if you are 40″ tight, you should be right in the middle of the Large (35″-44″)

  43. Hi,

I measured my relax posture measures at 39-40 and tight similar. What size would fit best for me?

    thank YOU

  44. If I’m measuring at 26/27 would you recommend the extra small or small? Thank you!

    1. Hey Victoria, I would suggest an XS with those measurements for sure!

  45. Any difference between your 4″ deadlift belt and your 4″ powerlifting belt? Any rule of thumb to tell whether I should get a 3″ or 4″ belt? I am going to use this belt for squats on the SS (Starting Strength) program and also deadlift, if possible, but the squats are #1 priority. (I am 5’10”, 172 lbs., Male. Measured about 35″-36″ around my waist.)

    1. No sir, the only difference is that the Powerlifting belt has the options to customize. I would recommend the 4″ wide belts if you are planning on staying at the 6.5mm thickness and treated leather. It is pliable enough that the 4″ wont hinder starting positions or anything of that nature.

      1. Hello Matt, i messure at 38 relaxed and 33 tight, but im also looking to slim down, what size do u recommend i buy?

  46. I’m probably not alone here, and I can only speak for myself. But as someone who’s lost a significant amount of body fat, I find I need to subtract about 3 inches from the naval measurement to get a useable belt measurement. If you have loose skin and “generally squishy” lower abdomen, going by the strict waist measurement even in a relaxed state, didn’t work for me.
e.g. I measure 37 now, but I wear my belt at 34 or 33 depending on the lift. I am very certain about my waist measurements, as I track it weekly and track my weights daily. Take it for whatever it’s worth.
My recommendation for someone in this situation, before ordering your own belt, if you can get your hands on a friend’s belt, figure out the notch that works for you, and actually measure it from the belt. This will ensure you get the correct side.

    1. This is exactly right and definitely the best way to get your accurate measurement!

  47. I measure around the navel (pulled snug) 37”. I want a belt that will give me room to go up or down a little depending on the season. But I seem to be at the bottom of a large and the top of the medium. How do I get one right in the middle? I’m ready to pull the trigger and buy one but I’m really nervous about the sizing.

    1. Just make a request to put the middle hole at 37” in the belt notes section!

  48. Hello! I am wanting to purchase a belt that is embroidered but the saying I want is more than 20 characters, is there any way that it could still be done?

    1. Two options:

1.) If it is slightly over the 20 character max, just type “see notes” in the embroidery section and explain what you are after in the “belt notes” section at the bottom of the order page.
      or
2.) Upload your text as an image. This allows you to go way over the 20 limit and do so in a font of your choice.

  49. Hello, I’m interested in buying one of your belts for powerlifting. Are they approved for meets? Also I’m at 35inches relaxed but tight is 33.5 what size should I order?

    1. They are approved for all federations other than IPF and upper level USAPL meets.
33.5″ tight would be considered a small most likely unless you are trying to gain weight. If you are planning on gaining mass, go medium.

If that doesn’t sound right either, just request 33.5″ be the middle hole and we will customize the length for you.

      Thanks,
      Matt

      1. hello Matt i am willing to buy a 13mm belt . i am between 33 and 34 right now but i am cutting down weight so no idea how my size is going to be soon. I was thinking about the medium one but how many holes can u add for me below the 31″ and above the 40 cz while bulking my midsection is going to be larger so no idea if i am gonna be larger than 40.
        thank you

        1. If you choose medium, I would recommend you requesting at least 4 more holes (do this in the “belt notes” section)

  50. Hello,

I would like to but a custom 10mm lever belt. I currently wear a 10mm single prong belt and the hole i use measures 40.5″. I am looking to cut some weight. What size should i order? I was thinking a medium but am not sure.

    Thanks,
    Kyle

    1. Choose large and request the middle hole be cut at 38″. That should give you about 33″-42″

  51. Does it cost extra to require a specific measurement for the middle hole and/or asking to add extra holes to either end.
    Thanks

    1. No extra! Just use the “belt notes” section to specify your needs.

  52. Hi there!

Heard great recommendations and I wanna purchase a 4”, 13 mm double suede lever belt from you.
I measure around 32-32.5” tight around the navel (in a t-shirt). This lies perfectly in the “Small” range. However, I plan to bulk up a little so I am not sure if a medium would not be a better option (I am an adult male, just bulking up a bit). Should I just order either size and put my waist measurements in the comments?

    Thanks!
    Borys

    1. Hey Borys,

I do think that the small is going to be best if you are going to stay fairly lean during your bulk. You should have around 4″ which, from my experience, will give you plenty of room to grow up to 40 ish pounds. I have a rule of thumb that works for most cases (one notch for every 10 pounds)

      1. Okay thanks! I will make the order in the next couple of days! :)

  53. My relaxed measurement came out to 30″. Should I get a small or an extra small?

    1. Choose the small but use the “belt notes” section to request the middle hole be 30″ if you plan on maintaining your current weight/build.

  54. sent an email concerning what it would look like for the picture to be burned in. Very concerned, it’s a skyline of beach in the photo. Is it possible to see a mockup?

    1. Shoot us an email with your order number so we can write a note on your order to send you a picture.

      Thanks,
      Matt

  55. My waist measures 34, would I need a small or medium?
    Thanks in advance

    1. Is that 34″ tight around the naval? If so, pick a medium and request the middle hole be set at 34″

  56. I would like to know what size belt I would need for a 34 inch waist? Small or Medium?

    1. Is that 34″ tight around the naval? If so, pick a medium and request the middle hole be set at 34″

  57. Hi Matt,

I’m about to purchase a 10mm lever belt from you and I just wanted to clarify some things before I purchase it.

I measured my waist around the naval and it came out to 31” (relaxed) and 29” (tight). Should I purchase the SMALL or Extra Small belt?

Also, have you engraved a black lever with a black color engraving? I wanted to have a murdered out lever with a subtle design.

Thanks, Matt! Your company does amazing work!

    1. Hey Jeff,

at 29″ I would recommend you putting in a custom size. Just pick a small then make a request in the “Belt notes” section for us to do the middle hole at 29″. The black on black lasering on the lever is definitely subtle. We typically try to keep people away from that option because it is tough to see.

  58. Hi I am looking at he 13mm untreated belt, and need some help with the sizing. I measure 41” and then with the tighter measurement around 38-39. I am trying to drop weight at least a few inches. What would be your recommendation for the size I should get?

    1. I would go with a 38″ middle hole so that you can ensure usage of the belt for a long period of time. That should give you a usable range of about 33″-42″

  59. Looking for a first belt, 10mm, w/ lever. 6’1”, 255lbs, 42” around the navel. Will be bulking up for 2nd meet in Jan. Borrow a (L) gym belt, use on the third hole, should I get the L or XL?

    1. Hey Mark,

I would suggest just you request the 42″ measurement to be the middle hole!

  60. Hi Matt, I am 29 inches around the waist right now at the naval when relaxed, will be aiming to shred a bit. 112 pounds, 5 foot 2. Should I go with an X-Small? Could you also assist with the thickness of the belt? This will be my first belt and I’m not sure which size, mm and belt type to buy.

    1. Hey Melissa,
I would recommend a custom size range of 29″ to the middle (just request this in the belt notes). For thickness, I typically recommend getting the 10mm belts if you are a powerlifter and either the dyed 8.5mm belts or the 6.5mm treated for bodybuilding specific training.

      Thanks,
      Matt

  61. I measure my waist to be 28″..would you recommend and X-Small or a Small?

    1. Hey! I would recommend you ordering a Small and then using the “belt notes” section to request the middle hole be at 28″.

  62. Hi there, came across the instructions in the video and I would need your help in deciding the size …

    relaxed waist: 36 inch
    tight waist: 32 inch

I’m looking at a lever belt.

    Thank you

    1. I suggest typing a request in the order notes to make the middle hole 33-34″

  63. Hi!

I measured myself a few times and followed the instruction in the video. Currently, I’m at a 32-33 right where it should be and this lies between the Sm/Med. Any advice on which I should get? I’m leaning Med due to the future possibility of weight gain.

    1. I would suggest either ordering a normal small or requesting the middle hole be 33″ (that would give you a size range of approx 28″-37″)

  64. Hello, I’m interested in getting a medium pioneer cut belt. I am a fairly new
lifter and I squat and deadlift 3 days a week. I’m wondering if I should get a 13 inch or 10 inch belt. Also, should I get a 3 inch or 4 inch belt? I’m also interested in seeing more pictures of belts with different colors so I can choose the right one. Thank you!

    1. Hey,

So I definitely recommend a 10mm over a 13mm for novice/intermediate lifters. The 3″ vs 4″ question will be answered using your body type. If you have a long torso or you are tall (say over 6′) stay with a 4″ belt. For more pictures, follow us on Instagram @pioneer_fit

  65. Aloha,
I just ate when a meal but I want to place my order tonight. I measured 34. I am working on losing weight, what size do you suggest I should get? Small or medium. I currently weight 160lbs 5’2”. Mahalo.

    1. Small if planning on losing as you said

  66. Hi!

Could you give any guidelines on determining whether 3 vs 4 inches wide is more appropriate? For reference I’m 5’4” cenando 24-27 inch waist, and I powerlift. I like a good amount of support and do generally like a wider belt, but I’ve had a couple occasions where I think the belt I was using literally bumped my thighs at the bottom of the squat, lol! I’d be nervous to go with 3inches since I do love a wide belt, but I def don’t want to compromise my squat. Is there a way to measure ourselves for appropriate belt width? Thank you!

    1. Hey Christiana,
Width is a very personal preference but at 5’4″, I definitely think it is worth looking in to. For sizing, I would definitely recommend an XS.

If you want to give a 3″ belt a try ( and you cant find one to borrow), I would tell you to get one of our 3″ deadlift belts since it is the least expensive option. That way you can try one without breaking the bank.

      Hope this helps a little

  67. hey i’m curious whether i need a sm/med powerlifting belt. My relaxed measurement is at 34 and 33-34 when i use a belt. I’m in the middle of a bulk but when i’m at a lower weight my waist is around 32 1/2- 32. I’m currently 5’9 185 but at my lower weight i stay around 178-180. Any advice would be very helpful!

    1. I think the size small will be perfect from what you told me. The 10mm pioneer cut is my recommendation for thickness and style (4″)

      1. Could I get a small and have the center hole at 33?

  68. Hello, I’m interested in your belt (Pioneer cut belt, 4”, 10mm)
My waist is 32” (tight) and 36” (loose) at the navel level.

    I have two questions…

    1. Where is my appropriate “middle hole” to write in ‘belt note’ ?

    2. You’ve answered to another customer, who’s waist is just the same as me (32”~36”), to comment “middle hole at 33”~34” ” at belt note. But there’s no information about size selection.

So I wonder, if i order with belt note comment(ex. middle hole at ___” please),
is there any difference between choosing small size and middle size ?
(esp. the whole length of belt)

or… is the belt length is also customized , determined by the place of middle hole, regardless choosing any size?

    1. Hey, So we typically like to make the middle hole closer to your tight measurement since that is how you will be wearing the belt. I would recommend going 33″ to the middle hole (write that in the belt notes). It will not matter what size you choose in the drop down, as the notes will supersede the size chosen. The length of the belt will be customized so that you don’t have a long end sticking through the loop.

  69. I am looking at buying a 13mm 4 lever belt suede my waist is 32.5 around the naval and a little under 31 pulled tight what size should i get medium or small

  70. Would I be able to get “DiDomenico” (my last name) above the lever even though it’s too many characters?

    1. Sure. Just type “see notes” in the above the lever section and explain what you want in the belt notes section at the bottom of the order page.

  71. Hello, I measured 33 at a relaxed state and 31 tight, what size lever belt would fit me best? Also, could you show a picture of the buckskin and the sand color belts so I can compare the 2?

    1. Hey Tanner, Shoot me an email to [email protected] or a DM on Instagram @pioneer_fit for those pictures. For sizing, Small would fit best with those measurements.

  72. I measured 32.5 inches around my belly button while relaxed. Should I order a small or medium size belt?

  73. I am looking at a belt, but I like having a lever and the ease of putting on and off; but off course I need it to be tight enough for me but and I heard a lever belt may have some trouble getting a real tight fit; and next I will be looking for a pioneer cut; is it easy as to put on and take off a pointer belt vs a lever or should I go the lever route?

    1. I am a big fan of the pioneer cut belts for ease of use.

  74. Hello, my relaxed measurement is 36.2″ around my belly button, while my tight one is 33.8″.
    I am 168.5 lbs at 5ft 11in. I don’t have a belly. I plan to raise my body weight to 176-178 lbs.
According to my measurements, I was thinking that a Small size should be appropriate, however, I have tried a cheap commercial belt at Small size but it didn’t fit me at all, not even in the first hole (probably I don’t have a small waist).
Thus, for which size should I go for?

(Btw, how “tight” should the tight measurement be?.. I am a bit confused here.).

    1. Hey Konstantinos,

If you are 33″ tight then a Small would be exactly what you need. Our Small runs at 27-36. The tape needs to be however tight that you plan to wear the belt

    2. Hi
What belt size should I take.
My waist size around the navel is 42.5. I also plan to lose weight along the way.
Not sure if i need to take large or extra large

      1. Hey Nikole,

At 42.5″ and losing, I would 100% recommend a Large (35″-44″). This size will allow you to keep using the belt during your weight loss journey!

  75. I measure tight around 41.50-42″, and I plan on dropping down in size. Would you recommend a Large size belt with middle hole at 40-41″?

    1. Yes, large should be right!

  76. Dear Matt,
I was just introduced to your Line of Products. I can clearly see that your Belts are something Special. We would like to give them away as first Place Awards in future Powerlifting competitions. We promote 5 contest a year. would you consider a 50% discount for these Belts? Also we would like to display your Banner in our Gym year round and on our backdrop during the 5 Comps.
    Cheers,
    Larry Pacifico

  77. Hi Matt,
How can I measure whether I should get a 3″ or 4″ belt? Should the belt go over my ribs or should it ‘dig in?
Is there a lot of difference in terms of support between 3″ and 4″ belt?
    Thanks so much!

    1. If you are experiencing discomfort like bruising while using a 4″ belt and/or the 4″ belt is hindering movements or starting positions, it is time to look into a 3″er for sure. If you have never worn a belt before, try one (4″ belts are going to much easier to find at the gym) because it is a very personal choice. General rule of thumb based off sales is people that are 5’6″ and under tend to go with a 3″ and people taller than 5’10” go 4″. 5’7″ – 5’9″ is a grey area but most lean to the 4″ belt.

      I hope this helps some.

  78. Hello! I’m trying to surprise my boyfriend with a belt but I don’t want to ask for his measurements or else it’ll ruin the surprise. Any suggestions on how I can get the right size?

    1. We get this quite a bit and there is no really good away without being super sneaky. Go on a recon mission and steal his belt while he is asleep. Get a tape measure out and send me a picture of the belt laid out with the measuring tape next to it so I can see what he has currently…. If he doesn’t already have a belt, I can TRY to help if you give me his height, weight, and build. Sizing is 100% on the customer though so it is important you know that you’re taking a risk without asking.

  79. Hi Matt,

My measurement around the navel l is 35 thigh, but I’m planning on slimming down.
    What size should I order?
    Thank you!

  80. I measured 37 in a relaxed state and maybe 35 1/2 tight. It seems like I’m in that grey area of medium/large. What size do you think would work?

    1. medium if maintaining or losing a belt. large if you only plan on getting bigger.

  81. Hey there! I am an 18 year old with a waist size that measures around 32.5 inches. I’m weighing in at about 175-180 lbs and I’m wondering what you would recommend as far as sizing goes. I don’t particularly plan on changing my body size too much, but I imagine I’ll be getting a little bigger as time goes on due to my age. I’m looking to get a 10 mm powerlifting belt. Any recommendations for which size to get? Thanks so much for your help!

    1. If you are planning on staying lean in the mid section a small (27″-36″) should fit for a good while

  82. Hey Matt. I got a few questions. First off I measure 36 relax and 34 tight. I intend to lose more weight. Would Medium be a safe bet or should I go for small?

Also, I saw the ROGUE FADED 4″ LIFTING BELT BY PIONEER. Are these made by you guys? It says its thickness: 8.5MM. Are these like the one I see on your site, 8.5mm belts are made using one piece of leather (approx 6.5mm thick) and ONE piece of suede (approx 2mm thick)?

I can’t wait to get my hands on one of your belts.

    1. Request 34″ to the center hole in the “belt notes”. I think that would be best and should give you a usable range of 29″-38″. Your assesment of the stock belts are spot on. 6.5mm of leather and 2mm of suede. The Rogue belts are hand dyed, where our stock belt options are dyed at the tannery.

  83. Hi, i wanted to get a belt and i measured in at 30 in. relaxed and 28 in. tight at the naval. I weigh 170 currently and am 19 years old and intend to lose weight down to 150. then bulk back up to 180. what would you recommend regarding belt size/thickness/width? I intended to get a single prong, tapered belt about 10mm thick and 4″ for width.

    1. I think the training (tapered) belt in the size small would suit you well. 10mm double suede or thinner will be good. It will go down to about 25″ and up to 40.

  84. Hi Matt,

I am planning to get the 10mm pioneer cut belt and measured the area where I will be wearing the belt which came out to 35.5 relaxed and 33.5 tight. What size should I get the belt? If it helps, I plan to stay around my current weight. Thanks.

    1. Hey Marcos,

Since you plan on staying around your current weight then your belt option is to order a Small or a Medium (it doesn’t matter which one) and then from there in the belt notes you will just request the Center hole to be the 33″

  85. The belt itself was amazing, just be very careful with the sizing. I’ve been using many different lifting belts for years and have always worn size Large, and Large fit by the measurements on the site – however, the belt I received in Large was about a foot longer than my Inzer belt and gets in the way of my arm while deadlifting – to the point where it actually feels dangerous. I contacted customer support, but they explained that they have no way of recutting the belt and my only option is to try to find a friend to sell it to. Error on my part I suppose, but it ruined an otherwise great experience.

  86. Hi there, I just measure my waist out to about 37 inches and was wondering what size belt I should go. Wanting to ask before hand since this would be my first serious weightlifting belt and not wanting to screw up. Thanks have a great day!

    1. Def think about where you want to be (weight wise). If planning a bulk and staying heavier, go large (35”-44”). If planning on cutting, go medium (31”-40”). If planning on staying where you are (and are going custom), request the center hole at 37”.

      https://youtu.be/fKUc5K8PIzs

      1. I don’t think ill ever go over a size 40 waist but with clothes on I could never fully know. If I stay the same or lose weight around the waist I would assume that a medium would be my best bet maybe? Damn I made this hard on myself. Lmao.

  87. Hi my waist size is 34.5-37 inches (34 very tight) is it size medium i should purchase? Can i do 2.5 inch width of belt for the 10mm lever belt? Cos my rib cage will be discomfort if 3 inch

    1. Medium yes and 2.5″ yes. (just request the width in the notes)

  88. Hi Matt,

I want to order a 3″ 10mm double suede belt. I’m 5’1” and my measurement around navel is 29″. Is this small or extra small?

    1. I would suggest requesting the 29″ measurement be the center hole. To do that, just pick a size (it doesn’t matter which one you pick) and use the “belt notes” to ask for 29″ to be centered.

  89. Hi Matt
I’m looking at purchasing a Pioneer Cut – 10mm Thick – Power Lifting Belt. If I wanted the centre hole to be 36″ would that be possible, and which size would I select for the order? Thanks Clive

    1. Hey Clive, 36″ is going to be a near perfect Medium (31″-40″)vso I wouldn’t worry about the center hole measurement.

  90. Hi Matt, I measure 37.5 at the navel, what size would you recommend, would it be medium?
This will also be my first time getting a belt for squats, deadlifts etc. What would you recommend is your go to one, is it the 4″ & 10mm thickness?

    1. Hey John,

If 37.5″ is tight around your naval, I would suggest that you make a comment in the belt notes section for us to make the center hole that measurement. I do recommend the 4″ 10mm specs.

  91. Hi Matt,

I measure 35.25-35.5 at the navel, at a height of 5ft 7in and weight of about 170lbs. Would you suggest a medium? I plan on getting a bit bigger. Thanks for the help! Appreciate it!

    1. Medium should be fine!

  92. Hi Matt,

Similar to the above, measure 34-35 relaxed at the naval, height of 5’7.5″ weight of 164lbs. I plan to get a little smaller. Have an Inzer Forever lever belt that measures just under 36″ and fits well but it digs in. Appreciate any suggestions!

    1. Hey Frank, so if your Inzer is digging in, I would at least get you to entertain the idea of a 3″ belt. For sizing, our Small belts come in at 37″ end to end, so that sounds like it should fit.

  93. Hi Matt,
I measured 34 at my navel and I plan staying at my weight. Should I order a Medium or Small belt with notes on centering holes at 34?
    Thanks!

    1. You can order either size and request 34″ to center and that is what we will do. (this is my suggestion)

  94. For the stock belts, if I measure at 29″, should I go for the small or XS?

    1. That depends on if your goal is to lose inches or gain inches. Choose the XS if you only plan on loosing. And the small if you only plan on gaining. If you are going to remain the same, request the middle hole be a the 29″ mark. Use the “belt notes” to make the request.

      Kimberly

  95. Hi Matt,
How do you customize the belt color? I’m looking at getting a green belt with “HULK” on the back in purple and a purple lever. Also measure 36-38.

    1. You would need to order a suede belt or hand dyed belt to get green. So just click on the belt you are wanting and all your options are on that page.

  96. hey guys I have a quick question regarding the size of the belt. I measured 33 at rest but when I narrow my waist as when I sometimes but my belt I measure 31.5 inches. should I go for small or medium?

    thanks

    1. I suggest the small 27″-36″, at 31.5″ you’ll be almost centered with holes on either side to bulk or cut.

      Kimberly

  97. I measure just under 44″ but I’m also cutting and I’m not going to get this big again anytime soon. Would I be ok with a large belt, or do I need to go for the XL variant?

    1. I suggest you order the large and then in the “belt notes” section, request the holes be at 35″-45″ that way it is sure to fit now and when you cut.

      Kimberly

  98. For the new Hybrid Belt coming out soon, how should we erasure ourselves for sizing??

    1. The new Hybrid belt will have different sizing ranges so you will need to remeasure yourself for these new belts.

      Kimberly

  99. Just FYI, I measured at 34 back in August and ordered a Medium and had 5-6 holes left. Now I’m down to 33 and am at 2-3 holes left on the belt. I’ll probably sell it to a friend and order a small in the near future.

  100. Hello,I had a question that was more on the cosmetic side of a custom lever belt. I was going to get a message embroidered on the inside of the belt and when i select it, the box pops up for embroidery color that I have to type the color into. I know it kind of seems like a dumb question but the embroidery uses the colors that are available for stitching or does it use the colors available for suede? I would think that the stitching color would be it but I wanted to confirm before I place any orders. Thank you!

    1. We have a plethora of embroidery colors, just type in what you want and if we don’t have it someone will contact you with suggestions. All embroidery thread does not necessarily match the border stitching. I hope this helps.

      Kimberly

  101. I measured a 42”. In planning on getting stock belt. Maybe a treated belt but I need to break it in before state. What size should I get? Also, which is a better option lever or pioneer cut? I’m 180 pounds at 15 year olds. Don’t want to get one and it be really big in the future. Thank for the help

    1. I think at 42″ you would be a large 35″-44″. I think the xlarge would have to much overhang.

  102. Hi my name is josh. I measure about 39-40 at the naval. Im starting a lean cut for a bit. What appropiate size should i get.

    Thank you

    1. I would order a medium, then in the “belt notes” section, request the holes be at 31″-42″. That way it will fit now and have room to lose inches.

  103. Hello, when measuring my waist as you describe here I have a 34 inch waist. Will the Small (27-36) work for me? Thanks

    1. Yes! Especially if you don’t plan a big bulk in the future!

  104. Hi Matt

I would like to purchase a Small 8.5mm Thick – Stock Power Lifting Belt , but at the moment you only have sizes XS,L,& XL. Will you be making any Small ones soon?

    1. Hello Peter,

No Sir, those belts are being discontinued so we won’t have anymore made. I apologize.

  105. Hello, So I measure 38in when I cinch the tape measure. It looks like I am in between a medium-large what size would you recommend?

    1. Hey Jason, If you are ordering a belt that is not a stock belt option, you can actually customize the size range. If that is what you are doing, please just use the “belt notes” section to state that you want 38″ to the center and we will do it. If you are going with a stock belt option, take into consideration your weight goals. If you are planning on losing, get a medium. If planning on gaining weight, opt for the large.

  106. I was interested in ordering a 10mm lever belt but my measurements seem to fall between small and medium. I am 6’0” 182 lbs and my measurement using your instructions comes to 33”. Any feedback would be appreciated before I place my order. Thanks

    1. if you aren’t getting a stock belt, you can just request 33″ center by typing in the “belt notes” section.

      1. Awesome, thank you. I was also wondering if you guys are able to do any Norse Rune type fonts for the outer customization

  107. If my waist size is 32 which size should I choose?

    1. small would be best for a 32″ measurement and it is designed to fit 27″-36″

  108. Hi,

    My measurement is around 38″.
Was wondering which size would you recommend. M or L?

    1. Hey Dennis,

If you are planning on loosing weight, I would recommend a Medium (31-40). If you are planning on gaining weight, I would recommend a Large (35-44). If you are planning on maintaining weight, and you are getting a belt that is not one of the stock options, you can request that we make 38″ centered so that you are right in the middle of the range. You can do this by typing in the request into the “belt notes” on the order.

  109. My measurement sits between about 39-40, but I do plan to lose some weight. What size belt would you recommend?

    1. If you plan on losing 30-60 lbs, medium (31″-40″) would be advisable. If planning on 10-20 ish lbs, Large (35″-40″) should suffice

  110. How durable is the suede and leather against sweat and dirt??

Does the suede not hold up after years of use?

    1. Hey Oscar,
Suede is actually surprisingly durable. That said, it will get dirty and sweaty if not taken care of, but those alone will not affect the longevity of the product. There are products that you can purchase and use to help keep the suede clean. Our belts are guaranteed for life so if anything ever affects the functionality of the belt, we will repair or replace it forever.

  111. Hi,

I was considering purchasing the 6.5mm 3″ Pioneer Cut Belt and was wondering which size would be more appropriate. My waist size is about 29″ – 30″. Would a S or a M be better? I am around 5’5″ and was also wondering if this belt would be better for my height than others.

    1. Hey Zachary,

I would have you ask yourself if you are planning on bulking or cutting. You are def not a medium unless you have major weight gain in the future. Small will be best for right now and if you plan to lean out down the road. If you are not ordering a stock belt, you can request a center hole (this is the best option if you are planning on staying the same build). I would suggest a 30″ if that is the case.

For width of belt: The general rule of thumb is the more surface area the better, unless that surface area hinders proper body mechanics/positioning. At your height, I would recommend trying the 3″ belt due to the feedback we have gotten from under 5’7″ folks saying that a 4″ bruises and/or prevents them from performing.

  112. Hello there,

I am currently getting started and have a waist of 61 inches. Is it possible to get a belt that big? I am currently losing weight. Some info, I’m currently 6′ and 369 lbs. Also what would you recommend, 3″ or 4″?

    1. Hey Sean,

Yes we should be able to splice the leather and get you the size you need. (its a process we have been doing for years and it hasn’t failed yet just FYI). At 6′, i would recommend sticking to the 4″ wide belt

  113. Hi, i’m 5 foot with a 29 inch naval, would you recommend the small or x-small and since i’m on the shorter side, would you suggest i also get the 3 inch waist vs the 4 inch? thanks!

    1. Hey Angela,

At 5 foot nothing, I would definitely tell you to entertain the idea of getting a 3″ belt. Unless you have very short legs and a long torso, a 3″ belt should give you enough surface area for ample support without hindering form and positioning. For size: I would have you think about your plans for your body type. If you plan to lose inches from your belly, I would say an XS is going to be best. If you are planning on gaining size, a Small would be best. Finally, if you are planning on staying around the same weight and size, I would have you make a note in the order stating that you want 29″ to the be center hole and we would do our best to make that happen.

  114. Do you make 2xl belts?

    1. We don’t offer XXL in stock belts, but other than that particular option we can do XXL or bigger. If you let me know what belt you are after, I can help you order it.

  115. I am a 5’8″ 183lb male with a 36″ waist. I plan on bulking to 190lbs then going on a cut. What size belt do you recommend? Thanks.

    1. medium 31″-40″ if that 36 inch measurement is tight around the naval

  116. I just orderd a belt ( order#609280) Size Small.
I am 5’5″ 142 lb guy with 32 inch waist . Do u think that that size selection is good ? OR Should I go for XS.

Also another question Do u think 6.5 mm or 10mm is better
I will be using this belt mainly for gym usage only. After placing order I thought 6.5mm is too thin ?

This will be my first lifting belt .

    Sorry for the long question

    Thanks

    1. If 32″ is tight around your belly button, I think small is the perfect size!

I think your 6.5mm option is going to be just fine for your first belt. In fact, the 6.5mm leather belt is going to be the same pliability as the 10mm double suede version so don’t stress about whether or not it is too thin.

      Look forward to hearing back!

      Thank you
      Matt

  117. I am 5’8 and weight 169 pounds, I measured at 34 at my bellybutton. I wasn’t sure if I should get a Medium or a Small for my belt.

    1. If you are planning on bulking, I would recommend going up to a medium. If you are planning on staying the same, I would use the notes and make the 34″ centered (only available with non stock belts). If you are planning on losing weight, go down to a small
